In the wake of Facebook privacy issues, one Minnesota startup aims to bring meaning to the phrase “control of your information.”
Most people have several email addresses, at least two phone numbers, one current address (along with numerous previous ones) and somewhere between five and twenty online accounts that this information is scattered across. If an address or phone number were to change, the information in those accounts would become stale. Because of this, information handled this way can become unmanageable and people tend to lose control of it. Gimigo was created to overcome this very problem. FULL STORY

When we launched the Gimigo® Network in June 2008, we started out with a simple, earnest mission: to ensure personal information is accurate, safe, and secure. Now just 18 months later, we’ve connected more than 250,000 people and businesses worldwide with accurate personal information.
Yet, as we near the new year I’m reminded of the thrilling journey ahead. The days of those pesky bulky phones you put on your desk or hang on the wall (landlines) are soon coming to an end, as mobile phones and voice-over-IP are welcomed with hands-free calling. Grandparents are demanding their own personal computers so as not to argue who gets more Internet time. And, finally, people are waking up to the importance of their personal information.
Personal information, whether it’s your name or phone number, is truly important. It defines your physical, worldly you. It’s how you connect with family and friends, it allows you to do business, and it’s how businesses make money. And, as world economies and societies continue to merge, your personal information will be of paramount significance.
So as we venture into 2010 and the years to come, we’ll continue to listen to your feedback and build the most sophisticated personal information network made with absolute simplicity and safety in mind for you.
You and those you connect with will benefit from accurate, personal information that is safe and secure.
Happy holidays from Gimigo!
Lukas J. Dickie

Burst Media, a leading provider of advertising representation, services and technology to independent Web Publishers, released the results from a survey it conducted about online privacy. The survey was administered to over 4,000 web users with the purpose of better understanding how privacy impacts a web user’s Internet experience, as well as its impact on advertisers. In addition to finding that privacy is a significant concern amongst web users, the survey also revealed that concern increases with the age of the respondent.
“The vast majority (80.1%) of web surfers indicated concern about the privacy of their personal information such as age, gender, income and web surfing habits. Concern about privacy is prevalent among all age segments, and increased with the respondent’s age from 67.3% among respondents 18-24 years to 85.7% of respondents 55 years and older.
…
The survey also found that most web users believe web sites are tracking their behavior online. Three out of five (62.5%) respondents indicated it is likely that a web site they visit collects information on how they navigate and interact with it.”

We’ve been so busy with development projects this year that we completely forgot to post “Gimigo on TV!” Over the summer, a couple of us from Gimigo came together to help out the Waseca All-School Reunion committee and improve the way they connect with alumni. Gimigo was a perfect match to handle their alumni database, so we built a clean and easy-to-use interface on top of Gimigo’s technology. Not only did everything work smoothly, we were also on the evening news! Go, Go, Gimigo! :-)
